Vang Vieng (04.03.2015 – 09.03.2015)

Am 04.03.2015 wurde das schöne Luang Prabang verlassen und die Reise nach Vang Vieng, das südlich von Luang Prabang liegt, angetreten. Gemeinsam mit Martha habe ich mir mal wieder eine Magenverstimmung (soll in Asien ja dazu gehören) eingefangen und so wurden die ersten Tage mehr oder weniger in der Horizontalen verbracht… zumindest war ich nicht alleine und geteiltes Leid ist bekanntlich halbes Leid! Als ich wieder fit war, ging es endlich zum sogenannten Tubing! Beim Tubing schwimmt man in großen Reifen den Fluss hinunter und stoppt dabei an diversen am Ufer gelegenen Bars um dort etwas abzufeiern. Einst die Attraktion in Vang Vieng mit massenhaft Bars, sind heute nur noch wenige übrig geblieben. Grund dafür ist, dass die letzten Jahre sehr viele Touristen aufgrund von Drogen- und Alkoholkonsum gestorben sind. Alles in allem war es aber ein riesen Spaß und wenn man mit gesundem Menschenverstand an die Sache ran geht, dann kann eigentlich nichts passieren (zudem befanden wir uns in der Trockenzeit, in der der Fluss weitaus langsamer ist). Genächtigt wurde in Vang Vieng in den Otherside Bungalows (80.000 KIP/Nacht für 2), die eigentlich super genial sind, wenn da nicht die nahe gelegene Bar wäre die einen 12 Stunden am Tag mit Techno und Trance Musik beschallt… Hier gibt es einige Bilder von Vang Vieng.

 

Vientiane (09.03.2015 – 12.03.2015)

Endstation in Laos war die Hauptstadt Vientiane. Nachdem uns Martha und Ariane verlassen haben um die Reise nach Kambodscha anzutreten, ging es für Katharina und mich via Minivan in die Hauptstadt. In Vientiane gibt es nicht sonderlich viel zu machen. Außerdem war es während der Zeit als wir dort waren, so extrem heiß und schwül, dass jede Bewegung eine Qual war. Ich bin ja mittlerweile vieles gewöhnt was Temperaturen und Luftfeuchtigkeit anbelangt, aber in Vientiane war es echt etwas zu viel. Zum Glück gab es in Laufdistanz vom Hotel (was keine Erwähnung wert ist) einen Pool, in dem wir dann unsere Zeit verbrachten. Einen kleinen Eindruck gibt´s hier.

 

Fazit zu Laos:

Ich muss sagen, dass mich Laos nicht wirklich vom Hocker gehauen hat. Landschaftlich ist es wunderschön, keine Frage, aber für mich spielen immer mehrere Faktoren eine Rolle. Zum einen mit wem ich gereist bin, das Essen und vor allem wie die Einheimischen so drauf sind! Meine Travelpartner waren auch hier einsame spitze, keine Frage. Leider musste ich aber feststellen (und das war auch die Meinung vieler anderer), dass die Laoten nicht wirklich freundlich sind – speziell im Vergleich zu anderen Ländern in Südostasien: kein Lächeln, kein freundliches Hallo… Natürlich gilt das nicht für alle, so haben wir natürlich auch unglaublich nette Einheimische getroffen, aber so im Allgemeinen war es eher auffallend und es scheint, dass die Laoten eher eine reservierte Art haben. Auch das Essen hat nicht wirklich überzeugt. Landschaftlich hingegen hat Laos schon viel zu bieten, wenn ich da alleine an diesen paradiesischen Wasserfall in der Nähe von Luang Prabang denke…

Ein Kilometerupdate gibt es nach meinem nächsten Land, da hier nicht wirklich viel Strecke gemacht wurde. :)

Vang Vieng (04.03.2015 – 09.03.2015)

On March, 4th we left the beauty Luang Prabang to go to Vang Vieng, which is located south of Luang Prabang. Together with Martha I had a food poisioning (well, that´s supposed to be part of a trip in Asia) and because of that the first 2 days were spent in a hammock doing nothing. As soon we all were fine again, we went Tubing. While Tubing you take a tube of a tyre, float down the river and stop on different bars located at the riverside. Once the main attraction in Vang Vieng with hundreds of bars, at present day there are only some bars left. Most of the bars were shut down because many people died because of beeing to drunk or an drugs. With some common sense it´s a lot of fun and not even dangerous at all… During our time in Vang Vieng we were staying at Other Side Bungalows (80.000 KIP/night for 2) which is actually a pretty nice place… but: the nearby bar with loud Techno and Trance (about 12 hours per day) music makes everything not really relaxing. Vientiane (09.03.2015 – 12.03.2015)

Final destination in Laos was its capital Viantiane. As Ariane and Martha left to make their way to Cambodia, Katharina and I took a minivan down to Vientiana. There is not much to do in Vientiane, furthermore it was so extremely hot, that we just couldn´t do anything. I really got used to hot and humid weather, but that was alomost too much and more or less unbearable! Luckily there was a pool in walking distance of our hotel where we could spend some time and cool down a bit. Some pictures are here.

 

Conclusion to Laos:

To be honest, Laos didn´t blow my mind. The scenery and landscape were beautiful, but for me it´s always a mix of different things: my travelbuddies on the way through a country, the food and the way how the locals are. Unfortunately I have to admit, that the locals in Laos were not outstandingly friendly… Of course not everybody, but generally it seemed that they rather have an aloof manner. On the other hand, my travelbuddies were amazing and nice again, so at the end of the day it was fun to travel in Laos. Also the food was not the best… However, the landscape is beautiful, only to think about this stunning waterfall near Luang Prabang, which was really kind of a paradise!

There won´t be a kilometer-update now as I didn´t really move that much. I´ll keep that until the next country.

Von Chiang Mai nach Luang Prabang (25.02.2015 – 04.03.2015)

Nach einem kurzen Stopover für eine Nacht in Kuala Lumpur ging es via Flugzeug nach Chiang Mai, was im Norden Thailands liegt. Da ich Chiang Mai vor einigen Jahren bei meiner ersten Asienreise bereits gesehen habe, gab es hier nicht viel zu tun, als Ziel ausgewählt wurde es nur um von hier nach Laos zu kommen. Gesagt, getan. Allerdings habe ich in Chiang Mai dann dennoch zwei Nächte verbracht um die Weiterreise zu organisieren. Mitten in Chiang Mai ist mir Tatjana aus Deutschland begegnet, die ich zwei Wochen zuvor auf Fidschi getroffen habe… verrückte Welt!!!! Einmal wurde dann in Chiang Mai noch ordentlich gefeiert, bevor es am 27.02.2015 Richtung Laos ging. Auf dem Weg wurde noch in Chiang Rai mit seinem bekannten weißen Tempel gestoppt, was hier zu sehen ist.

Der Grenzübertritt von Thailand nach Laos war problemlos, wenn auch wie immer amüsant und chaotisch! Bereits in Chiang Mai im Bus habe ich Kathrin aus Münster getroffen, die die gleiche Richtung hatte. In der Nähe der Grenze wurde in der Stadt Houay Xai genächtigt bevor es am nächsten morgen mit dem Boot auf dem Mekong Richtung Luang Prabang ging. Auf dem Boot haben sich dann Ariane aus New York, Martha aus Philadelphia und Simon aus der Schweiz zu uns gesellt. Der zweitägige Bootstrip war echt super witzig und ging durch tolle Landschaften im Norden von Laos. Bilder vom Bootstrip gibt´s hier!

Luang Prabang ist eine tolle Stadt mit sehr gemütlicher Atmosphäre, uns allen hat es hier von Anfang an super gut gefallen! Der erste Tag wurde mit Schlendern durch die Stadt und viel Essen verbracht, dass hier sehr gut ist und günstig zu kriegen ist! Am Abend ging es dann auf den That Phu Si Tempel von wo der atemberaubende Sonnenuntergang über der Stadt bestaunt wurde. Am letztens Tag stand dann ein Ausflug zum Kuang Si Wasserfall an, was schlichtweg nicht zu glauben war… Ich habe im Laufe dieser Reise und in meinem Leben schon viele Wasserfälle gesehen, aber dieser scheint schier unwirklich schön. Türkisfarbenes Wasser und einfach paradiesisch! Aber überzeugt Euch selbst und schaut Euch einfach die Bilder an!

After a short stopover in Kuala Lumpur I kept going to Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. I`ve already seen Chiang Mai a couple of years ago during my first Asia trip, so there was not much to do here, I´ve chosen Chiang Mai as next destination to head on to the nearby Laos. Nevertheless I spent two nights there and I also met a familiar face again – accidently I was running into Tatjana who I met in Fiji around two weeks before… crazy small world again and again and again! After a little party I took a minivan to Laos on February the 27th. Already in the bus I met Kathrin from Germany who had the same directions. On our way to Laos there was a short stop in Chiang Rai for the White temple. Here you can see some pictures of the White Temple in Chiang Rai.

The boardercrossing to Laos was smoothly but as always funny and exciting! Near the border we stopped for a night in Houay Xai before we took a slow boat to Luang Prabang the next morning. On the boat we met Ariane from New York, Martha from Philadelphia and Simon fro Switzerland. All together we had an amazing and fun boatride through breathtaking scenery along the Mekong river. Luang Prabang is a cool and relaxed city with a great atmosphere! We all loved it from the beginning! The first day we spent strolling and eating around the small city center! In the evening we climbed up a small hill to the That Phu Si Temple to watch a stunning sunset. On our last day went to a waterfall which is just unbelievable! I´ve seen a lot of amazing waterfalls in this trip and just in my life. But this one is just incredible, probably the most beautiful waterall I´ve ever seen, it felt like in Paradise… But just have a look!

Soundwave Festival und Byebye Australien… (19.02.2015 – 24.02.2015)

Kaum von Fidschi wieder zurück, stand das Soundwave-Festival mit einem grandiosen Lineup an. Es spielten Künstler wie Slipknot, Soundgarden, Faith No More, Marilyn Manson, The Smashing Pumpkins uvm… Hier wurden dann zwei Tage bei super Wetter und guter Musik verbracht. Mit an Bord waren Bridie, Gerryd und Glen. Ein paar Bilder vom Festival sind hier zu sehen. Und wer in harter Rockmusik interessiert ist, der findet vielleicht an folgenden zwei Videos Geschmack. Einmal ein Circle Pit der Band Fear Factory, und einmal ein Ausschnitt vom Slipknot-Konzert. Alle anderen am Besten gar nicht anklicken! :)

Und wie es kommen musste, war es leider auch mal wieder Zeit, Abschied zu nehmen! Am 24.02.2015 habe ich Australien verlassen, um erneut Südostasien unsicher zu machen! Zum Abschied wurde noch einmal ordentlich gegrillt und fast alle waren mit dabei! Ich möchte mich noch einmal ganz herzlich bei Damo und Kara dafür bedanken, dass sie mich in die super tolle WG gebracht haben, bei Jase  dafür dass ich sein Zimmer für 2 Monate beziehen konnte, bei Suga, Sev und Barbara für die schlichtweg super witzige Zeit und die kulinarischen Köstlichkeiten, bei Bridie, Tara, Gerryd und Glenn für die superverrückten Sachen die wir gemacht haben! Und einfach allgemein nochmal ein riesiges Dankeschön für alles! Ich hatte eine super tolle und lustige Zeit in Melbourne und habe dieses Land am Ende doch noch lieben gelernt! Der Abschied fiel wirklich sehr schwer aber ich bin sicher, dass wir uns irgendwann irgendwo auf dieser Welt wieder sehen!!!

Ein erneutes Fazit zu Australien spare ich mir, wie schon erwähnt habe ich dieses Land und vor allem die Leute lieben gelernt!

Da ich mich aber etwas via Auto, Zug und Flugzeug bewegt habe, gibt es ein kleines Kilometerupdate!

Just back from Fiji there was the amazing Soundwave Festival with it´s incredible lineup including Slipknot, Soundgarden, The Smashing Pumpkins, Faith No More and many more… I was accompanied by Bridie, Gerryd and Glen and we had heaps of fun and sun within  perfect weather! Here you go for some pictures! For those who like Rock and Metal music, I´ve taken some videos, for example a Circle Pit at Fear Factory and a little video of Slipknot. For those who don´t like this kind of music, just don´t waste time. :)

Unfortunately, after almost 2 1/2 months, my time here in Melbourne was over and it was time to say goodbye… On February, 24th I left Australia and went back to my beloved Asia to keep going with my great adventure… On our last evening we had another amazing BBQ with German/Bavarian Solo Burgers, and almost everybody came to say goodbye! In this way I want to say thank you to all the great people I spent time with! Especially I want to thank Damo and Kara, who brought me into this lovely sharehouse with the funniest and coolest people ever! I want to thank Jase, whose room I could stay in for almost two months. I want to say thank you to Suga, Sev and Barbara for the funny time and the great culinary delights we were coocking all the time! I want to thank Bridie, Tara, Gerryd and Glen for the great and funny time and the amazing adventures we had together! THANK YOU!!! I will never forget this great time and in the end I learnt to love Australia and it was really really hard to leave and say goodbye… BUT: I´m sure we will see each other again, someday and somewhere in the world!

Fidschi (10.02.2015 – 19.02.2015)

Ab nach Fidschiiiiiiii!!!!!!! :)

In der Nacht vom 10.02.2015 auf den 11.02.2015 wurde der im Südpazifik gelegene Inselstaat Fidschi angesteuert! Dort habe ich die Carina, eine gute Freundin aus der Heimat, die mit Christoph auf einem “Round The World Trip” ist, getroffen. Kaum angekommen, ging es schon auf die erste Insel namens Beachcomber. In Fidschi gibt´s eigentlich nur eines zu tun: Relaxen, Chillen und Beachvolleyball spielen. Viel mehr wurde hier auch nicht gemacht. In Fidschi ticken die Uhren jedoch etwas anders als in der restlichen Welt.

Hier läuft alles in sogenannter “Fiji-Time”, heißt alles dauert etwas länger und geht langsamer. Auch kann man hier nicht wie gewohnt einfach aufschlagen, sich eine Unterkunft suchen und Essen gehen wo man möchte. Man bucht hier alles in einem Paket für sehr viel Geld. Heißt man bucht eine Unterkunft und muss dort das Essen mit dazu buchen… Uns alle hat das anfangs etwas verwirrt aber nach kurzer Eingewöhnungsphase gewöhnt man sich auch daran und kann das Leben in vollen Zügen genießen! :) Das Fazit zu Fidschi lautet: einfach nur unglaublich schön, wahnsinnig nette und freundliche Menschen und Entspannung pur!

Next stop was Fiji, an Island state located in the Southpacific. Here I met Carina, a good friend from home who is on a “Round The Word Trip” with Chris. Just arrived early in the morning, we took a boat to our first small Island called Beachcomber. What to do in Fiji? Right! Nothing! Just relaxing, hanging around on the beach, playing beachvolleyball and enjoying ourselfs! In Fiji, everything goes a little bit more slowly… It´s the so called “Fiji-time”, and everything takes it´s time and is a little bit different… you can´t just come here, look for a room wherever you want and eat wherever you want… For heaps of money you have to book a room including all food and everything. For all of us a little bit confusing at the beginning, we got used to it after a while and in the end we could just enjoy it! What to say more about Fiji? It´s just amazing, really beautiful and totally relaxed! Here you go for some pictures, and as I love nice beaches, there was time jo jump!
